Our Relationship Story

We met during our freshman year of college at New York University. We lived on the same floor in the dorm and were both a part of a really close group of friends. The next year we lived in separate places and realized that we had feelings for each other. Pit came to Stacey’s apartment very early one morning with warm cinnamon rolls and we officially became a couple.

We were together for ten great years before we got married. During this time, we created a really strong foundation as a couple. We enjoyed life in New York City together, traveled, supported each other as we started our careers, and brought home our sweet and playful puppies Noot and Ella. We got engaged in Central Park and planned our dream wedding, which took place eight years ago.

Because we come from families of different backgrounds and traditions, we were lucky enough to have both an Indian wedding and an American wedding that incorporated some Chinese traditions. We love that our family is a mix of cultures that we can celebrate, and we would be even more thrilled to add your baby’s cultural traditions, too!

How We See Each Other

Stacey says: I fell in love with Pit as just friends at first. Our friends and I used to jokingly call him the leader of our group, and I quickly grew fond of him for it. He just naturally finds ways to include everyone, to make everyone feel at ease. And his intentions are always so genuine. Then as we established a relationship, I fell in love with him for the way he takes care of me and makes me feel loved. I deeply appreciate our partnership, and I look back to see all of the ways he has supported me during our many years together. One of my favorite qualities about Pit is his sense of humor. He is just so much fun to be around because he’s constantly goofy! It always puts a smile on my face. And when I’m having a hard time, he knows exactly how to use humor to immediately turn my day around.

Pit says: When Stacey and I were in college and no longer living in the same dorm, I came to realize how much I missed her and how much joy she brought into my life. I wanted to soak in that feeling, and Stacey has continued bringing me that joy in different ways ever since. She is incredibly loving and conscientious of people important to her, and I have always felt like she would do anything for me and our family. One of my favorite qualities about Stacey is how excited she will get for things that are fun for our family; for example, when we go on a family vacation, Stacey excitedly plans all kinds of activities that are interesting for all members of our family. When we get home, Stacey reviews all the footage we took and makes a video of memories for that trip. From beginning to end Stacey is thinking about how to maximize fun for our whole family.

Our Life Now

Stacey says: I am so excited to be a stay-at-home mom when we adopt. Currently I am an elementary special education teacher. I work with children with disabilities ranging from speech impairments to learning disabilities to autism. Working with young children has always been such a joy. I love their sweet individual personalities and watching all of the ways they grow and progress during the year. Working with special needs has become my passion. I really enjoy finding ways to support all children according to their unique needs. My many years of teaching have given me a solid understanding of child development. I understand the different stages that each child goes through, and I’ve also learned how to handle challenging situations with authority and compassion.

Pit says: I studied Finance and Marketing while in college but quickly realized I was really interested in technology and how it was changing our lives. Because of this, I have worked at Google for 17 years in a variety of roles. Currently, I work in our Strategy and Operations team, where we have to make decisions about how Google should invest resources for the future. Working with technology helps me see both the positives and negatives exposure to technology can breed, and very much informs how I think about technology as a parent. I also appreciate that working at Google allows for great work-life flexibility.

We love being parents! Our family now consists of the two of us, our two sweet dogs Noot and Ella, and our son Bodhi, who is in preschool. Bodhi is so sweet and gentle with babies and always talks about “when we have a baby.” We think he is going to be a great big brother!

We live in New York City, where we first met, and we absolutely love living here. There is so much to see and do, and all of our close friends live nearby. And the fact it is so easy to get around makes the entire city accessible to us. New York City has tons of families and is an amazing place to raise children. Our family loves to walk, ride our bikes, or take the train to wherever we want to go.

We love to explore parks and discover new playgrounds. There are great museums that are so kid-friendly - we especially love the Brooklyn Children’s Museum and the Museum of Natural History!

We live right next to Union Square Park and we spend so much time there. There is an awesome playground with a sandbox, swings, several slides, and places to climb. And our favorite part of the park is the farmer’s market. It is open four times a week and we go all four days! We love supporting our local farmers, buying and cooking with fresh produce, and trying new foods.

Stacey will be a stay-at-home mom.

Stacey says: I love my work but also prioritize being a mother. I have been on childcare leave from work since Bodhi was born. Until Bodhi went to school, I stayed home with him fully and had the pleasure of taking him to art classes. I am excited to do the same with this child as well. When Bodhi and this child are in elementary school, I will fully return to work and luckily my work day will coincide with the end of their school day. This means we can spend our whole afternoon together. We will also have summers together, which I am so grateful for. Last summer Bodhi and I spent the summer exploring Central Park at Forest School, going to gymnastics class, and having playdates with his preschool friends.

Pit says: Google is such a great place to work and gives me a totally flexible schedule. I have been able to reschedule my days as needed. When Bodhi was a baby, I adjusted my schedule to take him to weekly music classes and I hope to do this with your baby as well. Now I am able to chaperone school field trips. I have also been fortunate to go into his class to read, cook, and celebrate holidays.

Holidays

Every single day is special in some way, but holidays are extra fun! We love the idea of having family traditions that we look forward to each year.

Halloween is one of our favorite holidays.  Each year we choose a family-themed costume. We make them at home from boxes or fabric. We love embracing Bodhi’s interests (we’ve been garbage trucks and tow trucks in the past!) when choosing costumes and then wearing them while trick or treating!

We love the Christmas season!

We start the Christmas festivities the weekend after Thanksgiving. First we take a family trip to the farmer’s market and pick out our Christmas tree.  After carrying it home, we put on Christmas music and start singing. Then we begin decorating, starting with colorful Christmas lights. Then we slowly unpack all of our Christmas ornaments and while we put them on the tree, we reminisce about the memories each ornament makes us think of.

Screenshot 2024-08-28 135447.png

Every weekend after Thanksgiving is filled with more Christmas fun. On Saturday mornings, we like to get some morning snacks from the farmers’ market and eat them while walking through the holiday market near us. We love looking at all the cute trinkets and gifts each booth is selling and indulging in yummy holiday treats (the warm waffles with nutella and strawberries might be our favorite!) We look at all the vendors and ask Bodhi to put things he likes “on his list,” so before we leave, he can choose one thing to buy and play with. Last year a Hot Wheels car was popular! We also love to visit the big tree in Rockefeller Plaza, watch the light show at Saks Fifth Avenue, and look at the Christmas displays in all of the store windows. There is a large toy store nearby (FAO Schwarz), and it’s so fun and festive to explore a toy store with a child!

Christmas

We spend Christmas Eve with Pit’s huge extended family in New Jersey. All of the kids run around and play all night long. We eat dinner together and then all of the kids open some presents. Then we spend Christmas Day at home with just our immediate family. There is something so cozy about being in your actual home on Christmas. We wake up in the morning and open presents after breakfast. The rest of the day is filled with lots of play!  The next day we head to the Boston area to spend the rest of the week with Stacey’s family. We love how Christmas is filled with so much time with extended family.

Hobbies

Friends joke with us that we are interested in too many things and have gained random skills while exploring these hobbies! We both have the type of personality in which we will hear about something new and immediately want to learn it. We plan to expose our children to as many activities as possible so that they can find what they are interested in. Whatever interest, skills, or talents your child may have will absolutely be encouraged.

We share our favorite hobby, which is travel. We really adore seeing the world and experiencing new cultures. We have been so lucky to visit some extraordinary places.  We cannot wait to see more of this beautiful world and also revisit our favorites (we’ve been to South Africa eight times!) as a family!

Photography and Cooking

Stacey says: Photography has become a hobby that has served me well. I love learning how to tinker with a camera’s settings to freeze a moment in time in the most beautiful way possible. Now I get to take amazing photos on our family vacations, and we have thousands of photos of Bodhi’s childhood that we look back on all the time. I also love crafting. I love to sew, knit, crochet, and cross-stitch. Baking has been a hobby for a long time. I find the process very soothing and especially love sharing the sweet treats with loved ones. Now I love cooking with Bodhi - it brings me such joy to be in the kitchen with him! He helps me cook regularly and has become an expert at making tortillas and dumplings.

Sports and Piano

Pit says: I’m a big sports fan, both playing (either myself or with the family when they would like to) and going to sporting events. I find it a great way to stay healthy and active while doing something fun.  Additionally, I enjoy performing arts. While they are not skills I developed as a child, I have taken lessons as an adult to learn things like piano and musical improv. It’s been fun sharing bits of these hobbies with the family, like Stacey coming to my improv performance or weekend mornings playing piano with Bodhi.

Birthday Celebrations!

Bodhi’s birthday has become a special day in our family, and your child’s birthday will be as well! We know that our celebrations will change as children get older, but every year we have a tradition of sitting on our rooftop deck and eating birthday cake together - there is something so fun about diving into an entire cake!

In addition to that, we try to incorporate some of Bodhi’s favorite things into his birthday celebration. When he turned two, we rented an ice cream truck for our truck-obsessed child and invited our close family and friends to share a sweet treat and celebrate with him. And now that Bodhi is older, we love coming to his classroom to celebrate his birthday with all of his friends!

Growing Up

Stacey says: I was born in a suburb of Chicago and lived with my parents, Young and Lisa, my older brother Nick, and my younger brother Tristan. We moved to a suburb of Philadelphia when I was 7 years old. As a child, I always loved using my imagination (my play kitchen set was my favorite!) or doing crafts. I’ve held on to both of these hobbies even now as an adult - baking and crafting are two of my favorite things to do in my spare time.

During my childhood, one of my favorite parts of the year was our annual ski trip.  When Tristan was still a baby, my mom would stay home with him, and my dad would take Nick and me to Colorado to ski. It always felt so special to have that quality time with my dad, doing the thing that he loved the most. Every morning he would braid my hair (my mom taught him how just for these trips!), we would go to a restaurant for breakfast, and then my dad would drop us off at ski school. When he picked us up in the afternoon, we would always stop for a white chocolate chip cookie. The last day of our trip was always my favorite because we would skip ski school and spend the whole day skiing together as a family. Pit and I still go skiing and snowboarding every year and it’s one of our favorite parts about winter. Since my dad passed away, skiing makes me feel closest to him and I’m so thankful for all those years of skiing we had done together. I will always treasure these moments of my childhood, and we will make a great effort to create these memories for our children.

Pit says: I was born and raised in northern New Jersey, along with my parents, Kishor and Pallavi, and my sister, Avani. When I was a child, I loved reading and being very active. I spent nearly every day playing a different sport with neighborhood friends or going to the library. Both of those activities became lifelong interests, as I still love doing both of those things to this day.

One of my favorite activities to do as a child was family trips to local amusement parks. We, along with cousins, would pile into station wagons and drive to Sesame Place, Six Flags, and any other local amusement park. We loved the roller coasters and the water rides, especially the lazy river, since everyone in the family (even the nonswimmers) could enjoy! These are some of the types of memories we hope to create with your child.

Pit's Family Lives Nearby

We are lucky to have family near and far, and everyone is very supportive of our adoption plans. Pit’s family is in New Jersey, just a short drive away from us. There are so many little kids to play with. Pit’s sister Avani and her husband Girish have three kids - Suri (9), Eila (6), and Niam (4) - and Bodhi loves playing with them. There is something so special about your relationship with cousins - you grow up together and get to know each other so well. Creating this special bond allows kids to learn so many important social skills in a safe environment.

Extended Visits with Stacey's Family

Stacey’s mom and younger brother Tristan live outside of Boston, which is about four hours away. When we visit, we stay for several days so it is nice to have extended time together. Stacey’s older brother Nick lives in LA with his wife Kathy and their son, Kyler (1). Visiting them is also a fun excuse to explore a different city! Last time we visited them, we took Kyler and Bodhi to the children’s museum and the local library.

We're still close with our college friends

Our friend circle from college is still very close. These are people we have known for 20 years, and they really are family to us. Now most of them have kids, and our kids are growing up together. They all live locally, so we see or talk to them all regularly.

Kwame and Suzanne have a son named Quinn (2), and we love meeting them at the playground or seeing child-friendly shows together.

Isabel and Thilan have a daughter, Sofia (3), and we go on an annual trip together. It is fun to rent a house for all of us to stay in together - the kids can play while the adults catch up!

Recently we took a bigger friend trip together to Portugal. Exploring a new country with kids was truly special.

Our Family Values

Above all, our family values kindness. We show kindness every day by taking care of each other. Having dogs is a great way to model this. Bodhi loves petting our dogs gently and taking them for daily walks. We talk regularly about how lucky our family is and the ways we can help other people.

Our family is very committed to taking care of the earth.  We strongly believe in living a life that is gentle to our planet. We shop at the farmer’s market because local food is better for the environment. We buy products made of materials that are less harmful to the earth and try to buy used items when possible. We compost food scraps and have taught Bodhi about the beauty of that process.

We also care deeply for all animals and believe that wild animals belong in the wild. We volunteered at an elephant sanctuary in Cambodia. We spend most vacations viewing animals in their natural habitats, from orangutans in Borneo to blue-footed boobies on the Galapagos Islands to polar bears in the Arctic. Our favorite type of trip is going to Southern Africa for safari. We have traveled there as a couple almost every year since we got married - and Bodhi has been with us twice already! There is nothing more magical than watching lions and elephants freely roaming in the wild.

We are so ready to devote ourselves to your child!

We hope this gives you an idea of who we are and what our life is like. Most importantly, we hope you can imagine the kind of life your child would have if you blessed us with your baby. Our family is filled with so much love already, but we have so much more love to give. We have imagined and dreamed of a second child for a long time. We knew that we wanted to adopt a child even before Bodhi was born, because we truly see the beauty of creating a family from different places. We are so excited to complete our family.

We would be so honored to learn more about you and your dreams for your child. Please feel free to contact us at our toll-free number 203-433-6655 or email us at staceyandpitadopt@gmail.com. If you have any questions about us or the legal process, please feel free to ask us for our adoption lawyer Suzanne Nichols' contact information. Suzanne will be happy to speak with you and has a toll-free number where she may be reached.

We know you have a lot to think about and we wish you the best of luck. You are making this decision with so much love, and we are certain that you will do what is right for your child.

We wish you peace and comfort.

Love,

Pit and Stacey
